“European arriving at Hutchinson Island Int 16th century found the Island populated by hundred of Native Americans
living setlements bordering both the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River.
The rich marine environment provided these native Americans a diet of fish, shellfish, and sea animals, including Whales and
sea turtles. The land provided them with deer, birds, bear, snakes, and edible and medicinal plants.
Because of the lack of hard stone, tools an wheapons were fashined from bone, shell, and wood. Vessels were made from gourds,
wood, and clay. Wooden dugout canoes efficiently ferried groups and families from the Atlantic Ocean to the St Lucie and Indian Rivers.
Archaeologist have documented numerous prehistorics sites on Hutchinson Island. Many sites has been damaged by hurracanes
and looters. Gilbert’s Bar house of Refuge was built on the top of a prehistoric settlement dating to as early as circa 800 BC.
By the late 18 th century, diseace, warfare, and slave raids have decimated the native American populations. There are no known
descendents of the first people of Hutchinson island.”

Definately the best Rum Runners I’ve ever had & you can even get them to go. They’re almost always packed, no matter when you go & also have a drive thru package store for take aways. Karaoke Sundays with Will are the best, & there’s great wings next door at Hurricane’s. Definately 2 thumbs up!

The hutchinson Island Pier is the ideal please to fish, read a book or only to see the sea magnitude. From April through September Hutchinson Island becomes one of the most important nesting areas for loggerhead turtles in the world. The nest are carefully monitored and well marked on the beaches, If you love the nature come to visit. Florida is one or the better places in the word.

Hutchinson Islands has 23 miles of beautiful unspoiled beaches with natural sand dunes. The beaches are on the same stretch of land, the beaches differ from access to access. Some have gorgeous rocky banks, like House of Refuge, while others are miles and miles of pristine sand. The off shore shipwrecks and natural reefs make Hutchinson Island a divers dream.. If you’re looking to spend some quiet time with a good book on secluded beach chances are you’ll find it on Hutchinson Island as the beach accesses are plentiful. We went 2 weeks ago with our family and never saw the peace and beaty equal. Hutchinson Island in Florida is a paradise to visit.

Hutchinson Islas cuenta con 23 kilómetros de hermosas playas vírgenes con dunas naturales de arena. Las playas están en el mismo tramo de tierra, las playas se diferencian de acceso al acceso.
